Conversations
This piece was conceived literally as a conversation between various the sections in the band. Much of the chart is based on the interplay between two different melodic lines, usually played by mixed instrumentation. This provides good opportunities to work on keeping a consistent style, good blend and balance across the whole ensemble. The charts of Sammy Nestico, when he was writing for the Count Basie band, provide a good reference for the style of this chart.
